We love the feisty American Goldfinches at our winter feeders. They're acrobatic, noisy, and occasionally fierce. By the middle of May, the males will sport banana yellow breeding plumage. That color was a challenge to capture in colored pencil. This pair is at home along Indiana roadsides--a habitat with a lot of history. It Was a Temptation Early in process but giving me so much giddy joy today. Another clue 😁 and this should be a giveaway for bird watchers. The next iteration of the sunflower bag, imaginatively branded by me and the birds ❤️ #coloredpencil #coloredpencilart #coloredpencilartist #indianaartist #birdart coloredpencilbirds So fun!! And a key element of my next piece, so I’m doing the smart thing - a value study!! The bag was much much trickier than the seeds 😁 https://www.instagram.com/reel/DT2-MMQjpVp/ In process: Tufted Titmouse pair. Do you love these winter feeder birds? Give them some sunflower seeds and they’ll be regular customers! Colored pencil on drafting film. New year - new series 😊 check in soon for more blackbird birds and process videos! Winter nature journaling from the cozy porch. There’s danger out there though - a beautiful Cooper’s Hawk is on everyone’s mind. We put up some sticks to give the little guys half a chance https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSOJ55Xj6PV/ Opening reception TODAY (Oct 3) @artbarn.school for Vanishing Point (Sept 30 - Oct 30 2025).
